Look Before You Leap

                One  day  a  fox  felt  very  thirsty. He  wandered  about  in  search  of  water. At  last  he  reached  a  well  and  peeped  into  it. By  chance  his  foot  slipped  and  he  fell  into  the  well. He  tried  his  best  to  come  out, but  could  not.

                A  goat  happened  to  come  that  way. It  saw  the  fox  in  the  well  and  asked  him  what  he  was  doing  there. The  fox  replied  that  he  was  enjoying  the  cool  and  sweet  water. He  invited  the  goat  to  come  and  taste  it. The  foolish  goat  was  taken in  by  his  words. It  jumped  into  the  well.

              The  cunning   fox  at  once  got  on  its  back. He  took  another  jump  and  go  out. The  poor  goat  was  left  alone  in  the  well. It  was  drowned.  

Attempt Again And You Will Win

              Robert  Bruce  was  the  king  of  Scotland. He  wanted  to  free  his  country  from  the  English  yoke. He  fought  many   battles  against  the  enemy, but  was  defeated  every time. At  last  he  gave  up  the  attempt, went  into  a  forest  and  hid  himself  in  a  cave.

                One day  he  was  sitting  in  a  dejected  mood. Suddenly  he  saw  a  spider  fall  from  its  cobweb  in  the  ceiling. It  hung  on a  fine  silken   thread. It  tried  again  and  again  to  climb  up  and  reach  its  web. But  everytime  it  fell  down  and  hung  lower  than  before.

            The  king  became  interested  in  it. The  spider  lay  faint  for  a  while. The  king  thought  that  the  poor  creature  would  try  no  more. But  to  his  surprise, it  began  to  crawl  up  slowly  again  till  it  was  very  near  its  home. At  last  the  spider  succeeded  in  weaving  its  web.

             The  king  jumped  up  with  joy. He  thought  that  if  a  small  creature  like  the  spider  could  succeed  after  many  failures, why  could not he.

       So  he  made  another  attempt  and  this  time  succeeded  in  freeing  his  country. 

MORAL : FAILURE  IS  THE  STEPPING  STONE  OF  SUCCESS

The Fruits Of Labour

                 A  farmer  had  four  sons. They  remained  idle  and  did not  help  their  father  in  his  work. The  farmer  advised  them  several  times  to  work hard, but  they  turned  a  deaf  ear  to  his  advice.

              One  day  the  farmer  fell  seriously  ill. He  thought  that  his  end  was  near. So  he  called  his  sons  and  told  them  that  there  lay  a  treasure  hidden  in  his  field. But  he  could  not  tell  the  exact  place  where  it  was. They  must  dig  the  field  and  find  it. Having  said  this, the  farmer  died. After  the  funeral  rites, the  sons  went  to  the  field. They  dug  up  every  nook  and  corner  of  it, but  found  no  treasure   anywhere. They  cursed  their  father. They  sowed  the  field  with  wheat. They  had  a  very  rich  crop  that  year. They  sold  it  and  got  a  lot  of  money. They  now  realised  that  their  father  had  spoken  the  truth. They  began  to  work  hard  and  were  never  idle  again.

One Good Turn Deserves Another

            Once  a  bee  fell  into  a  pond of  water. It  was  carried  away  by  a  swift  current  and  was  about  to  drown. A dove  was  sitting  on  a tree nearby. It  saw  the  bee  in  distress.  It  plucked  a  leaf  from  the  tree  and  threw  it  near  the  bee. The  bee  climbed  on  the  leaf  and  thanked  dove   for  its  kindness.

                 A  few  days  later, the  same  dove  was  sitting  on  a tree. A  hunter  came  there  and  took  an  aim  at  it  with  his  gun. The  bee  saw  the  dove  in  danger. It  flew  and  stung  the  hunter  on  his  hand. The  hunter   cried  in  pain  and  dropped  the  gun. He  missed  the chance. The  dove  flew  away  at  the  noise. Thus  the  bee  repaid  the  dove’s  kindness  and   saved  its  life.

MORAL : A  GOOD  DEED  DESERVER  PRAISE

The Dhobi And His Ass

                     A  washerman  had  a  donkey  and  a  dog. The  donkey  carried  his  bundles  of  clothes  to the  river  and  the  dog  watched  his  house  at  night.

                     One  day  the  dog  was  given  nothing  to  eat. He  was  angry. That  night  a  thief  broke  into  the  house. The  dog  did not  bark. On the  other  hand, the  donkey  desired  to  show  that  he  was very faithful. Thus  when  he  saw  the thief, he  began  to  bray. The  washerman  was  disturbed  in  his  sleep. He  woke up, but  found  no  one  in  the  house. He  beat  the  donkey  for  creating  a  row. The  dog  laughed  in  his  sleep.  

MORAL :  NEVER  ACT  ON  A  FOOLISH  ADVICE
