Never Tell A Lie

          Once  there  lived  a  shepherd  boy. He  used  to  graze  a  flock  of  sheep  and  goats. He  returned  in  the  evening  with  the  flock. One  day  he  thought  of  making  fool  of  the  villagers. He  cried, "Wolf, Wolf". The  villagers  came  running. On  reaching  they  found  no  wolf  there. The  shepherd  boy  made  fun  of  the  villagers  several  times. One  day  a  wolf  really  came.

               The  boy  cried  louder  and  louder. No  one  cared  for  him. The  wolf  wounded  the  boy. It  killed  several  ship. He  had  learnt  a  lesson. He  never  repeated  such  trick  again.

 

God Helps Those Who Help Themselves

    Once  a  cartman  was  driving  his  cart  along  a  muddy  road. It  was  a  rainy  day. Suddenly  one  of  the  wheels  got  stuck  in  a  mud-hole. The  cartman  beat  the  bullocks   severely  to  make  them  pull  out  the  cart, but  in  vain. At  last  he  sat  helplessly  by  the  roadside.

          He  prayed  to  god  Hercules  for  help. The  god  appeared  before  him. He  advised  the  cartman  to  put  his  shoulder  to  the  wheel  and  try  to  push  the  cart  out.  The  cartman  acted  upon  his  advice. The  bullocks  too  pulled  hard  and  the  cart  began  to  move on.

Wisdom Succeeds Where Strength Fails

      A  cap-seller  lived  in  a  village. He  made  caps  and  sold  them  in  a  nearby  town. It  was  a  very  hot  day. He  was  passing  through  a  forest  to  sell  his  caps. There  were  many  monkeys  in  that  jungle. He  got  tired. He  thought  of  taking  rest. He  came  under  a  shady  tree, put  his  bundle  down  and  lay down. He  was  soon  fast  asleep. He  was  wearing  a  cap  on  his  head.

        The  monkeys  sitting  on  the  trees  watched  him. They  climbed  down  the  tree  and  untied  the  bundle. Each  of  them  put  a  cap  on  its  head  and  then   climbed  up  the  tree. When  the  capseller  got  up, he  found  the  bag  empty. He  was  surprised. By  chance  he  saw  the  caps  on  the  heads  of  the  monkeys. It  was  very  difficult  to  get  back  those  caps. He  thought of  a plan. He  threw  away  his  own  cap. The  monkeys  imitated  and  threw  away  the  caps  on  the  ground. The  cap-seller  gathered  all  the  caps  and  went  to  the  market.

MORAL : WISDOM IS  STRONGER  THAN  MUSCLE  POWER

Tit For Tat

        There  lived  in  a  certain  village  an  elephant  named  Ramu. It  used  to  go  to  a river  to  take  a  bath. Daily  it  had  to  pass  by  a  tailor’s  shop. It  used  to  put  its  trunk  into  the  shop  and  the  tailor  used  to  give  the  elephant  something  to  eat. They  became  fast  friends. This  went  on  for  several  days.

            Days  rolled  on. One  day  the  tailor  was not  keeping  well. Moreover  he  had  a  quarrel  with  one  of  his  customers  in  the  morning. He  was  upset  and  was  sitting  in  an angry  mood. At  this  time  Ramu  came  to  the  shop  as  usual  and  put  its  trunk  in. The  tailor  pricked  a  needle  into  Ramu’s  trunk  instead  of  giving  it  something  to  eat. Ramu  felt  it  very  much  and  resolved  to  take  revenge. It  went  to  the  river  and  filled  its  trunk  with  muddy  water. On  the  way  back  it  went  to  the  tailor’s  shop  and  threw  all  the  muddy  water  on  the  new  clothes.  Everything  was  covered  with  mud. The  tailor  had  to  suffer  a  great  loss  to  learn  a  precious  lesson.

 

Look Before You Leap

                One  day  a  fox  felt  very  thirsty. He  wandered  about  in  search  of  water. At  last  he  reached  a  well  and  peeped  into  it. By  chance  his  foot  slipped  and  he  fell  into  the  well. He  tried  his  best  to  come  out, but  could  not.

                A  goat  happened  to  come  that  way. It  saw  the  fox  in  the  well  and  asked  him  what  he  was  doing  there. The  fox  replied  that  he  was  enjoying  the  cool  and  sweet  water. He  invited  the  goat  to  come  and  taste  it. The  foolish  goat  was  taken in  by  his  words. It  jumped  into  the  well.

              The  cunning   fox  at  once  got  on  its  back. He  took  another  jump  and  go  out. The  poor  goat  was  left  alone  in  the  well. It  was  drowned.
