Once a lion lay asleep under a shady tree in a forest. A mouse lived in a hole nearby. He came out of its hole, climbed on to the lion’s body and began to jump and play.
The lion woke up. He caught the mouse in his paw and wanted to kill it. The mouse pleaded for mercy. It promised to help him in difficulty. The lion laughed. He took pity on it and let it go.
A few days later the same lion was caught in the snare of a hunter. He roared loudly and tired to free himself, but in vain. The mouse heard the roar and reached there to help him. It cut the strings of the net with its sharp teeth and set the lion free. He thanked the mouse and ran away.
